Untitled by Chrisga , on Flickr The battery level square is fairly self explanatory, with the main rocker switch, and rocker switches for 1 water heater, 2, front 12v lighting, 3, rear 12v lighting and 4 the water pump. Red light comes on next to water pump when in use and the on light comes on with the water heater after drawing water through hot tap system first. The v plug socket only works when plugged into mains. Auxiliary 1 seems to be the on off switch for the carver fan master and haven’t figured out aux 2 yet. Anyway to do that other than turn off and try to figure what’s not working? No idea why there are two aerial points and I have no idea what the single button does under the v three pin plug socket but the red light comes on if you flick it. The carver fanmaster control panel with thermostat works the heater and I read that when on elec it controls temp from that thermostat, but when running on gas you use the heater control knob to change temperature. The single rocker switch with carver fanmaster written under it doesnt actually seem to control anything either. Wonder if it makes a difference if not plugged in to the mains. So we appear to be able to make all the systems work but still not sure what some switches do.

We repair Motorhomes and Caravans, habitation Checks. The ECxxx chargers will charge either Habitation and Starter batteries if you manually use the ‘Battery’ button on the LCD display controller to select the relevant battery. The Sargent website states: The Bosch L5 is the exact same battery made in the same plant with a different label but better warranty. The above cable not only simplifies installation, but the EC will be able to route the Solar Regulator charge to both the Habitation battery and the Starter battery.

All Solar charging is also displayed on the existing EC display.

Hook up the positive battery terminal first then the ground. Make sure you know wich cable is wich. The ground (usually black on American cars, brown on European).

CTA presents the complete guide to auxiliary battery systems for camping. If on a camping trip you want to be able to charge your camera battery, keep your drinks cold and have some lighting while you cook your camp meals and still be able to start your vehicle the next morning this guide to auxiliary battery systems is for you. Interested in alternative power options? Check out our guide to solar power for camping. How a battery system works Typically a battery system is made up of the vehicles main battery that is used for starting the vehicle and an auxiliary or second battery that takes care of the fridge, camp lighting, etc.

An isolator is used to connect the two batteries together so the second battery can be charged using the vehicle’s charging system. The second battery can also be situated in the camper that’s being charged via an Anderson plug. The isolator also disconnects the two batteries when the vehicle is switched off and not running so the main battery is not drained and the vehicle can still be started even though the second battery may be running low. Isolating systems There are two main types of isolating system being used; the first is a solenoid type isolator, which has been around for a long time and is mainly seen in older vehicles and is controlled via the vehicle’s ignition switch.

A variation on the solenoid isolator is the smart solenoid system. They are basically the same but the smart solenoid has circuitry that includes spike protection and voltage sensing so the solenoid is switched on and off automatically. These are a great cheap system and can be used in nearly all 4WDs.

How to charge a car battery Gather the correct materials – Before you get started, you will need the following materials: Baking soda, Car charger, Distilled water, if necessary, Extension cord, if necessary, Gloves, Moist cloth or sandpaper pad, if necessary, Safety glasses, goggles, or face shield.

What causes a Charger to fail? On 1st February Kev wrote: I’ve now fitted the new EBL99 with two new Varta batteries and they’re charging from mains hook-up perfectly. The new EBL is working fine. I’ve charged the old batteries using my bench charger and then tested them using a Sealey 12v battery tester and they’re both refusing to hold the charge”.

When Kev first contacted us, we suggested the reason for the chargers failure would be poor batteries, as that, or an oversize battery bank, is almost always the cause. He initially disagreed with our diagnosis thinking his batteries were good. As you can see from the above, our experience of doing this since shows. Modern Alternators are very reliable. Yet Alternator failure in a Motorhome is not uncommon. Just look at the regular posts on the Forums. So if the problem is ‘weak’ mains chargers, why are Alternators also an issue on Motorhomes, yet not on any other vehicle?

Surely the only common factor is the extra load of the habitation battery?

This charger is an improvement on the BCDC that charges a vehicles auxiliary battery or more importantly a remotely located battery in a camper trailer which is a long way from the vehicles alternator. Over this distance the alternator is only trying its best to charge the battery. The biggest downfall in a situation like this is the voltage drop over the distance involved, sometimes at around ten metres or more. The BCDC is also designed to isolate the auxiliary battery from the main battery to avoid over discharge of the main battery.

The unit turns on above Each solar cell has a point at which the current I and voltage V output from the cell result in the maximum power output of the cell. The principle is that if the output from the cell can be regulated to the voltage and current levels needed to achieve a power output at this point, then the power generated by the solar cell will be used most efficiently. MPPT ensures that you get the most power possible from your solar panels during low light level conditions.

All this calculation and regulation results in the output from your solar regulator providing the maximum current possible at the required voltage at any given point. During low light level situations it will compensate for the low light level and find the new point at which the solar cell delivers its maximum power output. This mode maintains the elevated voltage from the bulk phase, but adjusts the amperage accordingly.

It may seem complicated to the newcomer, but a few minutes spent understanding the basic principles, common terms and definitions in use will be worthwhile in ensuring your enjoyment of our product. Measurement Of Nose Weight, Towing Vehicle’s Rear Suspension Another simple method is to use bathroom scales and a suitable piece of strong timber as a platform to rest the tow hitch on.

The timber can be placed vertically between the caravan tow hitch and the bathroom scales. The timber should be of such length that when the caravan tow hitch is lowered onto it, using the jockey wheel, the caravan floor is horizontal.

Translate This Page Updated: R” The above is probably the best feedback we have had. How many people drive 6 hours each way to get a Motorhome repaired and are elated by the experience? We are seeing more and more Motorhome Fuseboards that have burnt out. Some have been so badly burnt it has been hard to see the reason for the Fire, but it seems to be consistent with poor batteries, an overlarge battery bank or both. Even when things get as bad as the unit above we can still supply a new Fuseboard and effect a repair to as good as new.

The above Fuseboards are time consuming to replace as so much wiring is usually damaged. Along with the cost of a replacement Fuseboard, the bill can be high, so don’t let your batteries get tired. Replace the batteries before they get past their best. In case you think that is a Sales Pitch, we don’t sell batteries. See our webpage ” Add a second battery? That is the minimum power that a typical 12v Fridge element requires to operate. Any less and it will just take the excess from the Habitation area battery, running it flat. Be wary of the Votronic copies, like those from the likes of Phaesun, they are not Votronics, but look exactly the same. When this connectivity is used, it enormously simplifies the wiring, improving reliability and functionality.

Subject: RE: leisure battery not charging with hook up: Just to add my two penneth, I got caught out once with my previous van (although not your make) with no charge getting to the leisure batteries, discovered there was a switch on the charger unit itself, that for reasons that remain a mystery had got switched off, might be worth a look.

How to Charge a Car Battery How to Charge a Car Battery by Jay Safford on Share Tweet Pin In an age where it seems every moment is tied to a schedule, the last thing you need is to find yourself stranded when your car doesn’t crank due to a dead battery. It doesn’t matter whether you’re at the grocery store, work, or home, this situation brings your schedule to a screeching halt.

Before simply accepting a loss of control, you can take “charge” of the situation by infusing your battery with new life.

A typical tender will charge a volt battery to volts and let it go no lower than ; any lower than that after the initial charge up and there may be a problem with the battery or the.

A sensor on the CTEK charger measures the battery temperature and adjusts the required charge by increasing the voltage in cold weather ensuring the battery is fully charged, while dropping the voltage in hot weather to avoid the problems of overcharging. If you own a 4WD and wish to run accessories like fridges or lighting from an auxiliary battery, then the D S Dual makes the setup of an efficient dual-battery system very easy. Over time, the auxiliary battery can lose its charge and even fail prematurely.

The D S is able to manage multi-battery applications that use mixed battery types, and also allow input from solar panels for additional charging. Applications The D S is suitable for any dual-battery setup: Fitting This is where the benefits of such a complete system can be seen first hand. The D S is a cinch to fit. The hardest part about our fitment was running the power leads from the starting battery through to the tray.

People have been using and charging auxiliary batteries in their cars and caravans with varying degrees of success for over a century. For most of us the days are long gone when all we needed from our auxiliary battery was a small amount of power for a bit of lighting and maybe a radio. So over the years our demands on the humble auxiliary battery have increased to the point that we need much more usable energy, and over a longer period of time, and we need fast and safe ways to recharge our batteries.

Many of the old ways used to charge these batteries are now antiquated, and they mostly never did the job very well anyway, neither were they conducive to long battery life. So lets look at what we need to build a system that will deliver the best performance for our hard earned dollars. Well I guess a good place to start would be an auxiliary battery, then we need an efficient way of charging this battery using the cars alternator, and most importantly, a way of isolating the auxiliary battery from your starting battery, so that your starting battery is not compromised, and so you will always be able to start you vehicle and not be left stranded.

To do this we use what is called a battery isolator, and then we need some cable to connect it all up, simple eh, well it is simple as long as you use the right bits, and put it together the right way…… Auxiliary Batteries. Basically you should be thinking about how big a battery can you fit, and less about how small and cheap a battery you can get away with, now I know money does not grow on trees, however the larger the battery the less percentage wise you will be draining it each day, and the longer it will last for you, both in power usage battery capacity , and in battery life longevity , with the extra advantage of some extra capacity available to you if needed.

The battery isolator is a device that allows the cars alternator to recharge the auxiliary battery while protecting the cars starting battery from discharging, if these batteries are simply linked together you run the very real risk of draining them both to a level that you can not start the engine, and there are many other reasons why you should not do it this way. So hence we have the battery isolator, there are many different methods used to isolate the batteries, most use some form of solenoid, this is an electronic switch that can handle large charging currents, much more than standard switches can, and they are operated by applying a small amount of power to them, this is turn actuates a solenoid that links the batteries together so that large currents and be passed between the batteries.

There are many ways to operate these battery isolators, some much better that others. The cheapest way is that you manually turn them on and off, I call these idiot switches, because sooner or later some idiot and I’ve been there will forget to turn the switch on no charge goes into the auxiliary battery or off at the right time and then the starting battery gets drained as well.
