Its rules gradually changed with the aim of producing a faster, in rugby league, points are scored by carrying the ball and touching it to the ground beyond the opposing teams goal line, this is called a try, and is the primary method of scoring. The opposing team attempts to stop the side scoring points by tackling the player carrying the ball. A History: ’s Word of the Year
A rugby player who fought off police officers for nearly an hour despite being Tasered six times has been jailed for 23 months. Former rugby league star Scott Moore, was repeatedly hit with the 50, volt stun gun. But the year-old, whose playing career was chequered with indiscipline, repeatedly got back to his feet to charge at police, Bolton Crown Court was told. Moore, who became the youngest ever Super League player when he played for his home town club, St Helens, aged just 16, grunted and growled at terrified officers, who struggled to arrest him for 50 minutes, following a mph car chase.
And as the 15 stone, 5ft 10ins hooker, fought them off he managed to grab the Taser, pointing it in the face of one officer, snarling:

Crossing the Irish Sea by the ‘Short Sea route’. One of the shortest crossings between Mainland Britain and Ireland is that between Portpatrick and Donaghadee. This is about 22 miles and the settlement of Scots in Ulster created traffic. The main traffic was not mail, but cattle on the hoof. John Smeaton improved the harbour at Portpatrick.

Parked next to the two conventionally-styled baggers the new flat-six powered F6B which stands, conveniently, for Flat 6 Bagger looks almost out of place. Baggers are traditionally chopped down V-twin tourers with twin bags with a smaller screen, less bodywork and fewer bells and whistles. That said, the F6B does adhere to the theme, just in its own way.
The new F6B is simply a stripped-down Goldwing, with less bodywork, a cut-down screen and chimes in five grand cheaper and 36kg lighter than its sibling. Trouble is, the base Goldwing, dating back to , now feels a little dated. In recent years Harley have really pulled their socks up. One of the first results of that is the new Road Glide Special which comes with a built-in 6.
There are improvements elsewhere, too. For example, the top-loading panniers are easy to operate and very user friendly. The spec on the Victory is also impressive, especially when you consider the very reasonable price. Fire-up the flat-six and those niggles are quickly forgotten. The Honda engine is something else: Making a sportsbike handle is easy, but getting kg to stop and steer is one of the greatest magic tricks since David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear.
Man of the Match: Israel Folau In starting, Danny Buderus beat two Blues standing records – Harragon ‘s for consecutive matches and Fittler ‘s for most games as captain. Much of the media build-up focused on the match being his state representative farewell, as well as Mitchell Pearce ‘s debut and Braith Anasta ‘s State of Origin comeback.

Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves Second vs third, the clash of the quality on show is mouth-watering. Josh Charnley up against his former employers adds spice. Big men against big men, quality and speed on the edges, both teams in good form. Can Wigan stop the Wolves making it 11 in a row? My tip, Wigan in a narrow win. Leeds, on the other hand, having won last time out against Widnes after the disappointment of the loss at home to Warrington. The Rhinos will have too much quality for the misfiring Tigers for me.

What is the difference between a boat and a ship? A boat cannot carry a ship. However, ferries are always boats but nowadays are often as large as cruise ships and carry lifeboats. A ship can carry a boat but a boat cannot carry a ship. William Gosling, Niederkorn, Luxembourg One answer is that a ship can carry a boat, but a boat cannot carry a ship. Another is that a ship’s captain gets annoyed if you refer to his vessel as a boat, but a boat’s captain does not get annoyed if you refer to his vessel as a ship.
Brian Robinson, Brentwood, Essex A boat is a ship when it is so big that you can put a boat on it! Royal Navy submarines are, however, always termed boats. Chris Nutt, Cambridge, Cambs There are two explanations given for this, the first is “A boat is a craft that can be hoisted aboard a ship”; as early submarines could. The other is “A vessel with only one deck is a boat, more than one – it’s a ship”; although large modern subs I imagine have more than one deck.
Keith Pettitt, Crewe, Cheshire Simplistically, a ship can carry a boat, but a boat cannot carry a ship.

It boasts some major towns and cities such as Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Wakefield and Hull, along with York which is the historic county town and administrative centre plus major towns in Huddersfield, Halifax, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster. Some aspects of the region are also quite rural, with a much lower density of population and these rural communities have been the heartland for personal introductions over the years, as sometimes in finding partners, that rural nature can be a disadvantage and make things more difficult than normal.
So both geographically and in terms of dating opportunities the Yorkshire and Humber region is very much a mixed bag.

Geological information can better characterise the near-surface in coalfield areas. Abstract Government-led regeneration schemes and policies encouraging the use of brownfield land present a challenge, particularly in coalfield areas. Coalfields have typically experienced multiple phases of development and can be susceptible to a suite of problematic ground conditions that may be rooted in the near-surface geology or result from anthropogenic activity.
Such problems, related to the nature of void backfill, undermined and unstable ground and the presence of contaminated land in the near-surface, may deter investment in the very areas earmarked for redevelopment. An understanding of previous developments within coalfields is required to identify potential geological hazards, so that regeneration proposals include measures that address these issues. Public records of landfill and site investigations, and minerals exploration including opencast mine plans can reveal the distribution, thickness and high-level descriptions of fill materials, although the coverage of data typically precludes a comprehensive analysis of entire cities.
Depending on the distribution of data points, however, 3D modelling can be possible, which is much more detailed and accurate. Focusing on the heavily urbanised county of West Yorkshire in northern England, the assessment of opencast coal mining on the landscape and benefits of quantifying the impact are discussed. We demonstrate how certain types of publicly available data allow a greater understanding of the interaction between human activity and natural superficial and bedrock geology.
If successful, this approach can help lessen the impact of delays and increased financial costs caused by unforeseen ground conditions. Previous article in issue.
